As I am typing this, while sipping a coffee under a good roof, there is someone out there with their hands covered in blood, coughing, and struggling to fight their overbearing debt. Of course, I am talking about poverty. (You can tell in the blog title. Well, the word "poverty" is shown everywhere.) It's hard to believe, since I live in a good city, and everyone is happy. When people talk about poverty, they always say, "Why can't they just get a job? Maybe if they worked, they wouldn't be in this mess in the first place." IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT! OF COURSE POOR PEOPLE KNOW THAT THEY NEED TO WORK FOR A JOB TO GET MONEY! THEY CAN'T GET MONEY BECAUSE OF FREAKING TAXES ARE GROWING FASTER BEFORE THEY CAN BE ABLE TO PAY IT! There is a term called "Cycle of Poverty". The cycle of poverty is where poverty never ever ENDS. IT JUST GETS WORSE AND WORSE BY EVERY MINUTE. I remember when I was in ninth grade, we did a cycle of poverty simulation to help understand poverty. I remembered that everyone was busy as bees, cutting out little diamonds out of cardboard. Everyone quickly got into debt. (except for my group, strangely...) The tax collectors keep asking for more and more, and the buyers were refusing to pay us "money". And I thought to myself, during the sim, "Those buyers are jerks." Then I realized something. The so-called buyers? They are the government. They only care about themselves and show no perspective on being poor. They are simply too rich to understand (from all those high taxes); they have the same attitude as those people who were questioning poverty. They "try" to help, but all they do is throw oil to the flames of poverty. If poverty needs to be stopped, we are going to need the perspective from those suffering from poverty. STOP belittling poverty. Spread awareness about poverty. Tell the government that the actions they are doing to stop poverty is NOT HELPING AT ALL. Empathy and education are the key to break this poverty problem for once and for all.
